The main dining room of the restaurant was, like the expense of my lunch, majestic and simple, and the light, gently filling its moderate air, seemed oily, like the sole of Dover’s kitchen. Earlier this month in downtown Manhattan, my film agent and I had the most productive business lunch in Oceana, where a severe soothing atmosphere improved the discussion of the second draft of my first script on the genie and tonic. We were shining, knowing that we are full of luck. And liquor.

The restaurant had 38 bottles of juniper juice on the wall, and four tonic waters made from home production – sweet, citrus, bitter and spicy, and the patrons were at the right place at the right time: there was a spontaneous mass decision. Take the base G & T for new Height of style and depth of aroma. The phenomenon is truly amazing: from the banks of the Ohio River to the beer halls of the Texas plains the bars make toning water from scratch and take care to fuse its special flavor with those of a very well-chosen gin. The Washingtonians, making the terms of the swamp that they were sent to, can now resist the sweat on the eyebrows with condensation on the G & T glass poured from the tap. In Baghdad near the Gulf, the G & Ts stream like Tigris and Euphrates, a look at SF Weekly’s notes on Brasserie S & P, apparently indicates: “Patrons can set up the perfect gin and tonic for themselves by choosing one of 31 different jeans (most of them Them Tasting), the choice of tonic water, including two varieties made from the house, and, finally, one of the elegant side dishes. “New York, of course, is delirious, and this week in the dining section our friends in The Times are on it. The matter is that this summer from the cemeteries of Marta vineyard to culinary dishes of La Hoya, the parties will come to refresh their appreciation of their classical clarity.

And while you guys have fun, I hope that you will go to Oceana and work out his 132 gin and tonic. Obtaining G & T: The Movie in development and preliminary preparation will require careful study of dozens of investors, because our goal is to create the film on our own, and my ambitions for the project have a titanic disruption. After the dessert, the agent and I slid out of the dining room to the white-marble bar to view the script behind the page, and she suggested that after all my ideas, a seven-hour movie worth $ 600 million for production, Not including marketing costs, or advice, would take off. “But we must pay tribute to the summer blockbuster of mixed drinks!” I cried, and we gently laid our foreheads on the bartop to cool the fever of an ongoing brainstorming session.

The film focuses on the origin of the drink in the 1800s among officers of the British East India Company who caught buzz in the fight against a disease transmitted from mosquitoes. “The British dominance of his empire in India was partly due to the juniper in the form of gin,” writes the Cambridge botanist. “Jin and tonic were the main product containing quinine from the South American shrub of Chinhon, which prevented malaria. Therefore, administrators were in the lead for ten years, not five. ”

My postcolonial approach to the birth of the drink is based on a Bollywood-style music room, crammed for the Oasis “Supersonic”, as the sitar is arranged. Then, with the advent of “Pink India” Jicks, this figure turns into kaleidoscopic into another, a tribute to the special place of G & T in American culture. The second number is in the style of Busby Berkeley’s co-authoring fantasy, but with the boys dressed in Nantucket Reds and girls in high-heeled shoes, and they all dance the shag to the original song Vampire Weekend (feat. Yale Whippenpoofs). G & T, like the seersucker’s madrasas and fabrics on which it is so often bottled, is a subcontinental invention designed for the warm weather of WASP Americans of all races and creeds. According to the authors of the final guide to the preparation of beer, “when well mixed and sipped in the backyard of the house with a harbor in the harbor at 7:32 pm on Friday, there is nothing better.”

These combined musical sequences were the center of the film, since I began to imagine it. The mood I’m aiming at should reflect the composition of a well-made G & T, with one measure of intoxicating sharpness that balances every two measures of sparkling pop. Trying to squeeze into the script lime-like dramatic tartness, I wrote a small part for James Spader as a boarding chemistry teacher who works with a former student to make a bath-gin. And then I started obsessively adding ideas and context and
